WORDS OF WISDOM

Personal notes from Dennis Bukantis

An Rx for Our Health Care - Part Three

If Parts one and two didn't get your attention, maybe this final part to this article may.

You've read the really bad news on federal government entitlement programs and that if they continue on this bent, they may be the only thing left for Washington to handle - after all, those numbers are mind boggling and indeed, there would be nothing left, if things don't change. Fulfilling the federal government promises made that they can't keep...there's no money to keep these promises.

So, Mr. Smarty Pants, what is the answer? Well, for sure it isn't up to me, but I have a couple of ideas that I'll run by you for your consideration. If you believe that we should be in a 'free-market' economy as opposed to a mandated socialist economy, then listen up now.

While reviewing the local Denver Magazine, 5280 a couple of months ago, it featured 'Denver's Top Docs'. What surprised me was the number of awards and concurrent ads in the same publication for cosmetic surgery of all types...breast enhancement, facelifts, tummy tucks, you name it's there. One plastic surgeon has an ad in this morning's Denver Post for a Mommy Makeover! Now, generally, these kind of services are NOT paid for by any entitlement program or private insurance under normal circumstances.

But what intrigued me was that if I was a 'cash-paying' customer and in the market for any of these services, it would be a simple matter of shopping for the best doc who could perform my elective surgery! Real free-market opportunity here - and real medical entrepreneurs.

Another interesting fact uncovered with than one discussion with representatives of these offices I was told that prices for cosmetic surgery has gone down - while almost every other kind of surgery has gone UP in cost!

I also asked if a person becomes a patient, could this include email and telephone consultations with the Provider or their office and I learned that YES it did! And not only that, patient's have an electronic medical record at their provider so regardless of who fields the call or email, the physician or assistant has your personal records in front of them.

If these type of medical providers are actually growing, it might indicate that one of the reasons is that they are providing services that mainstream isn't. Without this kind of service and a positive experience for most patients, they'll get antsy and go elsewhere - which is exactly what's happening. Today more than ever, people want the experience.

In 2009, a consumer group called Communicating for America partnered with TelaDoc to provide members with access to a national network of board-certified physicians providing cross-coverage consultations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additional information is available on this by contacting me directly. Joining this organization is easy. We view this as yet another way for you the consumer to get the most out of your health-care dollar.

Look around your community for boutique or Urgent Care facilities...they're springing up all over. For a cut finger, a child's sore throat, it becomes an efficient and far more cost efficient than running to the Emergency Room for these kinds of services. With this free-market type of practice from physicians who no longer want to bother with the hassles and administration of third-party insurers, they have become very competitive and prices for medical services have decreased!

Another part of the global health-care delivery system are foreign providers in places like Mexico, Canada and even Bangladesh. Sort of like health-care tourism - lots of Americans have elected to have many types of surgeries offshore. In order to attract Americans to these foreign providers, you'll find significantly lower costs for procedures by board-certified physicians, some who have trained in the U.S. and Canada.

Another idea that I have is to require doctors and hospitals to guarantee their work, regardless of private insurance or services provided through entitlement programs. Statistics show that a high percentage of people who have surgery provided through Medicare actually return to the hospital for mop up work...again, costing the system more money to correct a mistake. Also, by requiring hosptials and surgeons to state their 'error-rates' should be a requirement. It just may help tighten up careless work and lower iatric events.

Just like the extended warranty that you may get when you purchase a flat-panel monitor or a new car...what about a Warranty on the work of a doctor or hospital? If something goes wrong, they gotta fix it FREE! Let them worry about how to recover the costs for the mistake... It might also dramatically lower the incidents of medical malpractice cases, put some lawyers out of business and get you back to normal as quick as possible.

Another way for a consumer to consider keeping some kind of private health-care benefits is to consult with us. Nowadays, it's possible to own a new class of insuring products, although limited in scope, they are cost efficient and can provide benefits that many of the higher priced major medical plans cover. In many cases, these 'Defined Benefit' insurance benefits can be purchased without medical underwriting and guaranteed issue. Dennis Bukantis Marketing offers such opportunities for you. Please contact me for a consultation on such a product today.

Well, there you have it - my ideas on the state of this country's health-care system. I believe that it could be a start for fixing what ails this system - and more importantly, returning the delivery of health-care from an unmanageable, nay impossible system that has historically used the classic Ponzi scheme as its foundation. You have a choice. If you believe any of this, let your voice be heard today.

An Rx for Our Health Care - Part Two

Did you understand the depth of the last parts of Part One? What if we as the People required the bureaucrats to account for their obligations like what is required in the private sector when it comes to pension assets and liabilities?

What if we awakened some morning, flipped on the news or read in the paper that the federal government was closing down Social Security and Medicare? What do you suppose would be owed on benefits already earned? A staggering $50+ trillion, an amount several times larger than the total size of the U.S. economy.

What does this bode for you, or your parents or grandparents who may be counting on these 'earned' entitlement programs for daily existence?

It's common knowledge that both Social Security and Medicare have been spending more than bringing in for a long time. Actually, it's a pretty big deficit right now that will be exacerbated by a large slug of Baby Boomers who will be jumping onto these programs soon. The deficit must grow...grow indeed.

Looking ahead...say to the Year 2019, ten years from now, the federal government will need one out of every four income tax dollars to pay for these programs. In another ten years, the approximate middle of the road for retired Baby Boomers, the federal government will need one out of every two income tax dollars!

I read a day or so ago that there would be a distinct possibility of Social Security and even Medicare recipients seeing their benefits CUT....and taxes raised...or both.

Medicaid, which I haven't mentioned yet - is in even deeper, darker waters. It's estimated by the members of the Potentates of the Potomac who make up the Congressional Budget Office, largely controlled by the Democrats in the august assemblage, Medicare and Medicaid will push out all other programs that they run by the middle of this century - that means, nearly everything - defense, energy, education - the whole thing. You may look out your window and see armed UN troops in your neighborhood. How's that grab you?

If the above scenario did play out, that would mean all we would have would be these two programs for health care. If the federal policies continued as is, and the only likely next move of higher taxes to pay for these entitlements, it would mean that at the mid-century point the average family in America will be only keeping 1/3of their income! 2/3 of your income sent to the friendly collector in the form of 'your' income tax. How ya gonna handle this?

A rather interesting aside here has been the Tea Party demonstrations held across the country two days ago, on April 15, 2009. While mainstream media portrayed it as being politically driven in most accounts, I disagree. No, it has little to do with the present branches of federal government solely. What it has to do with is that government has become so oppressive and large and in the process is taking away our freedom, liberty and income. It was interesting that several Judas Goat commentators called it a 'grass roots' movement...far from that...way above that and it's turned into substantially more than 'grass roots'..when you consider the thousands that participated...it's taken hold..now all that needs to happen is that the word must be spread...even if other than mainstream media outlets are used..it's time that you listen to the voices of your fellow, hard-working members of your society.

Some would opine that there is no federal law that requires you to pay any tax on your income from work. If that is true, then why don't the masses stand up and ask for some accountability on this matter? I'm not convinced that there is, however, I recently phoned a large tax preparer's office to ask them if they knew the law that required a person to pay income taxes. Now, you would be thinking that if anybody knew, they would. I was informed by the person on the other end of the line that 'I don't know what that law is, and we only follow the government's guidelines on taxes!' WOW! Let that statement resonate with you, Jack.

I certainly don't know the answer to this question, however, there are some people who after exhausting research, claim to know. One particular website that caught my eye was that of www.larkenrose.com You might want to check that out. It seems right out there in the open and uses federal law as it's guidelines.
There are some other very good websites that also provide information on this matter. Restoretherepublic is highly visible on the internet. Another excellent publication is the American Free Press. They, I believe, print the news and content that you don't see on mainstream television or other publications. Check em out!

Next in Part 3, I'm going to deliver my ideas as to how we might clean up this mess. If you believe that we shouldn't rely on the welfare state policies that we're currently buried under and getting deeper, then you won't want to miss Part 3. We'll touch on free-market practices that encompass health-care delivery, and the only proven health-care insurance system in the free world.

For health insurance needs that you have, please contact us for a confidential discussion of the same. After all, we're still free market! An Rx for Our Health Care - Part One

I had the occasion to visit the Social Security Administration website...you may be familiar with it. On the SSA site, there is a button where they tell you that the SSA is very healthy. If that were true, then all of us should be relieved, particularly those who are depending upon SS Benefits in retirement. But what if that's not necessarily true?

Well, the bad news is that getting through the current economic fandango will not be easy, and some say, that we're really confronted with a far bigger problem. To wit;

The first of the Baby Boomers signed up for early Social Security benefits last year and these same early beneficiaries will also enroll in Medicare in about two years. The PROBLEM is that neither Social Security nor Medicare will be ready to handle them.

Explicit and implicit promises have been made to millions of people, but the Promissor has not put money aside in order to keep those promises. How can this be?

While it appears to some in the know, Wall Street charlatan Bernie Maydoff and now a couple of others got their business idea and ethics for their Ponzi schemes from studying the federal government entitlement programs. Check it out...they all operated in a similar manner.

Compounding the problem that will hit mainstream America is that in the private sector, many employer-sponsored pensions plans are not fully funded. And there doesn't appear to be any federal government insurance scheme behind those plans.

Conservative estimates places the potential taxpayer liability between $500 billion and one trillion dollars for those private pension plans. And too boot, nearly 1/3 of all Baby Boomers work for an employer who has promised retirement health care benefits. As with our now govermnment owned auto companies in Detroit and other places, almost no funding for these benefits is on the table either. Where and how will these promises be met?

Certain California municipalities have declared bankruptcy because of their employee retirement plans and the first Baby Boomer is still only 63 years old.

What all this points us to is a huge gap between what an entire generation believes is going to happen during its retirement years and the funds that are supposed to be there - but are not - to make good on all those promises.

What may happen as some have visioned is that somebody is going to be really upset. Either the Boomers will not have the retirement life they had counted on (and we're seeing this right now) or grassroot taxpayers are going to be hit with a walloping bill. Or both.

Now, rewinding back to the idea of a Ponzi scheme for a minute - this federal government has spent money that it doesn't really have. So we must ask, how can they keep promising more and more entitlements? They can't and do it legally. Remember, Maydoff and others are going to jail for this type of scheme.

This may help you crystalize on this matter better: Trustees for the SSA have estimated an unfunded liability of in excess of $100 trillion in current dollars. Not rocket science here, this would equate to mean that the feds have promised more than $100 trillion over and above any taxes or premiums it expects to receive. This $100 trillion represents about six and a half times of the US economy - they should have this on hand right now building interest.
Truth is Genevieve, it doesn't exist.

This in a brief fashion is a story of Social Security - Next Words of Widsom will talk about the other side of the government entitlement program, Medicare and after that the widsom of Private Health Care Insurance. Stay tuned to this page regularly.

Springtime! A Season of Rebirth

Greetings from a blustery Denver, the day before the Easter Celebration. While yesterday was calm, sunny and warm for the Opening Day at Coors Field, today's a sharp contrast!

Downtown was really packed, particularly in the area of the stadium..course, the opening day tilt was "sold-out" sometime ago. Son-in-law James West and I enjoyed the hospitality event hosted by none other than Pete Coors at a LoDo club. All the Coors brewed products that you cared to have plus a bountiful fare of ballpark cuisine; hotdogs, several kinds of bratwursts, salades, all the fixings and fresh cookies!

Spring brings professional baseball back to birth at major and minor league outposts across this great land of ours. We're fortunate to have the Colorado Rockies right here in Denver, and down the road at Colorado Springs, the Sky Sox compete in the Pacific Coast League, AAA action! We try and make at least one trip a season to Security Field there...$2 hot dogs, beers and FREE parking!

Spring also brings a renewal of growing things...buds and flowers are starting to pop their heads up - the grass is re-emerging here even after a dry, dry winter. Soon, it will be time to start thinking about vegetables and bedding plants...as long as I can keep the two precious Scottish Terriers away from the growing stuff!
They always seem to find a way over the fences particularly when nice, fresh compost is put out to enrich the soil.

Spring also brings renewal to people's hearts and souls. Those that celebrate the Glory of God in their own way, should be bouyed by the very things that are now becoming visible to the human eye.

In spite of these economic times, I believe that God is a God of increase...a God of measure...through Him, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things...I've seen it..you may have too, but keep looking UP and you shall!

Now for a paid commercial! Soon, you'll see some new features and new products on this website. You can find informative news on insurance matters. As long as you're here..swing on over to the INSURANCE NEWS PAGE. Keeping you informed on cutting-products is just one of the things that's on my mind. The latest article on the Insurance News Page is on CRITICAL ILLNESS Insurance. Czech it out!

On our LifeStyles Page - For the Not So Rich and Famous, you'll be able to connect with several of our friends in a wide range of things...if you would like to join our special friends on our LifeStyles Page, just let me know...it's FREE!

My friends, thanks for dropping in today to read these scribes. May your springtime be joyous and uplifting in all that you do.
